Episode CXVIII - Shulk Fu

Anyone who has bothered to stick around this long knows what to expect from a Comic Book Haters podcast episode. Sure, there are curse words, inane observations, over the top nerdiness and lots of drinks flowing, but what does it all mean? What purpose do these podcasts serve? Have you ever stopped to think about that? Well, this one in particular provides the world with a much-needed critical review of Jim Starlin's "Death of the New Gods" number one, and a glimpse at an old She-Hulk comic from last summer. Let's face it; the Comics Journal isn't going to touch either of these titles. Luckily, the Comic Book Haters did, and they're bringing it all back home to you.

Here is the letter that Sloofus got published in Powers v2 #24:

"Sloofus:

I think I can probably cover the letter column for you next month. To tell the truth, I'm kind of busy, but you sounded pretty desperate in the blurb. If there's anything else I can do, like wipe your ass, or dab my jizz off your mom's chin, just be sure to let me know. A big shot genius like yourself is obviously above such petty trivialities. I guess you're pretty busy thinking up the next plot for one of your epic masterpieces. But just remember, you'll owe me one.

Oh yeah, what's the cash value of those trade paperbacks? I want to fire up the old 'eBay Button,' if you know what I mean."

If Sloofus had offered to shave Bendis' head, he might have been given the gig. Especially if he had offered to do it in the nude. I heard that he likes that.

Anywho, I tried to read DEATH OF THE NEW GODS and I found it to be unreadable. I actually bought it. I should have read it over at Borders for free.

Why is it that I enjoy the Fake Peter Rios so much even though I loath the real version? It's like someone liking the supermarket brand of cola more then Coke or Pepsi.

Maybe it's because Fake Peter Rios is a parody, and not an imitation?

No, I think it's because Fake Peter Rios isn't a pretentious little prick.

I vote for the "not a pretentious prick" idea.

Holy shit! I just listened to the episode. What the hell is going to happen to FPR now that the Real FPR (RFPR) is in town?

Jesus, I'm a little scared.

..Hey -- I just started checking out your podcast-- very fresh take on comics talk (not for the squeamish, but VERY refreshingly honest!). I totally agree with your review of the Death of the New Gods; I wish I could get the 10 minutes of my life back that I spent trying to read that comic.
